About Us...
AMATEUR RADIO
Amateur Radio was the foundation for all Radio and TV
broadcasting that began in the 19th Century. Having been around roughly
100 years most communications inventions were created by amateur Radio
enthusiasts or "Hams" as they are known. This is only one of two hobbies
that is controlled by the Government with a license requirement to allow you on
the air.
DX
VADXCC is a specialty club that specializes in DX'ing.
What is DX'ing? It is the ability to talk to other "Hams" in
distance places. There are 340 individual entities in the world
according to the International Radio Union. A DX'ers goal is to talk
to and confirm a two way contact with all 340 individual entities in the world.
CONTESTING
Another arm of
amateur radio is contesting. Basically every week end of the year there is
a radio contest being held. Generally these contests have a specific goal
in mind such as countries, states or zones worked. However there are many
minor contests that specialize in modes or communications, or frequencies.
We primarily support the PVRC contest club for total scores.
MEMBERSHIP
Membership is open to any individual that
has an interest in amateur radio DX'ing. There are two classes of
members - full and associate. A full member is any amateur radio
operator that has earned the ARRL DXCC certification and has full
membership rights including voting. Associate members are all
other amateurs and non amateurs. Dues are currently $10 per
year. All correspondence is sent via electronic means.
